Are Paper Invitations Still Required in 2017?

I would like to take a moment and address a question that keeps popping up from my bridal couples as technology keeps becoming more personal. “Why can’t I use an evite type of wedding invitation?” is by far the most vexing question I deal with. The answer may seem obvious, but there are a couple of considerations.

Let me set on thing straight - I am no longer against evite wedding invitations - for particular circumstances. For example, if the wedding is less than a month away and paper invites are just not possible. We’ve seen this in military weddings where one member of the couple is being deployed on short notice. In this instance, evites are not only appropriate, they are often your only choice!

On the other hand, I am still for paper invitations in traditional weddings.

After all, you are asking your wedding guests to spend money on travel, shower and wedding gifts, and child care. The very least you can do is provide them with a keepsake from your wedding. Moreover, it provides a sense that their presence is meaningful and you truly want them to be part of your big day.

Finally, there is just something about the tradition and tangible sense of excitement a well-designed paper invitation brings to your wedding. Paper invitations provide your guests with something to stick on their fridge as a calendar item. And if it’s done right, it provides a glimpse of your wedding theme.

In summary, when working your budget forgo evites unless there are no alternatives. If you have any other questions about your wedding day, don’t hesitate to call, email, or just leave a comment below. Thanks!
